eing a student means a constant struggle of trying to balance academics, extracurriculars, and family. Students are often overwhelmed which is why maximizing productivity is so crucial to success. Studying is a major aspect of performing well academically, and is a skill that needs to be developed. That’s why we’ve put together a helpful list of healthy study habits for long-term success!

Minimize Distractions

Studying can be a tedious and frustrating process, so minimizing distractions will prevent you from going off-tasks. Distractions include environment, devices, and people. Firstly, pick a place where you believe productivity will benefit the most. Consider factors like sound, resources, and comfortability. Some people prefer the privacy of a quiet bedroom while others prefer a noisy cafe. Devices are also a contributing factor when it comes to distractions. It’s best to study without any personal devices or with notifications on do not disturb. The final factor to consider is people. Study groups are an amazing resource but only if they’re able to serve as a source of motivation and not distraction. Think about the benefits of studying alone vs. with other people as well as who you would be studying with.

Try Different Methods

When is comes to studying, their is a diverse range of techniques and styles to choose from. This is why it’s important to explore different ones. The way someone thinks is entirely unique to them. Finding a method that compliments your way of thinking is crucial when it comes to success.

Set Goals

Goals are motivation when it comes to studying. Define what success is and set a quantifiable goal to achieve at the end of each study session. Doing this makes progress easier to track, and seeing the success will make it easier to continue studying. Additionally, when you achieve a study goal, don’t forget to reward yourself! People forget that work needs to be put into studying in order for it to be productive. Rewards are well-deserved and will motivate you to continue putting in maximum effort.

Take Breaks

Taking breaks maintains the longevity and quality of your study sessions. When people study, they often overwork themselves or “cram” in order to see immediate results. Contrary to popular belief, this actually hinders your ability to process and retain information. Your study sessions should be consistent. Create a schedule that’ll optimize the time you spend on academics but also allows you time to have fun. Breaks are a great way to implement this. By breaking up your study session, your brain has time to process the information you just learnt while also destressing. This will also make the time you actually spend on studying more productive as your head will be cleared of distractions.

Studying takes time and effort to perfect. It is an important skill to master if you plan on being successful in an academic setting. We hope you found these healthy study habits helpful and will implement them into your routine soon!
