Connect Me recently partnered with Lucy Dreyer, better known as @lucydacademics on social media.
Lucy is a well-known influencer and student at Georgetown University who posts a variety of academics-related content that ranges from general study tips to advice and help related to AP and other standardized exams. She has helped countless students pass AP exams through her free and comprehensive study guides, layouts, and note sheets.
I spoke with Aahana Jain, Connect Me’s Director of Partnerships, about her overall experience with this exciting partnership.
“How did you know you wanted to partner with her?”
“In Partnerships, what we do is reach out to all sorts of influencers on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube so every week, my department members send out hundreds of emails to these influencers to hopefully get partnerships that are unpaid since we are a nonprofit. This can be a very hard task to do since the content creation world requires so much effort, so we all get so excited when someone agrees to do this for us. My one department member, Jimena, has been amazing with getting these free partnerships on Instagram and she had actually reached out to Lucy and got an email back that she was interested in partnering with us. So from there Jimena got her to schedule a Zoom call with me and I met with Lucy!”
“How was the overall experience leading up to and after the partnership?”
“So the Zoom call with her went super well, she told me how she makes videos with a lot of non-profits on Instagram and how excited she was to partner with Connect Me! It was such a funny story because I actually was not at home when I took the call, so I did have to take it through my phone and not my laptop which I don’t like doing, but I was trying to prop up my phone on my friend’s car and act as professional as I could while my friend’s next to me dusting off her car while we’re in the boba place’s parking lot. After I ended the call with Lucy, I thought “oh my gosh, she probably thinks I’m so unprofessional” and I was so embarrassed because I thought I had messed up the partnership.
Later on I had Jimena email her back with the one-pager on the creative brief requirements and she responded back saying that she would get us the draft soon. That was when I had searched up her name on Instagram and I saw how many followers and views she gets per video and my stomach did a flip. I immediately went on Discord and gave Jimena a whole paragraph on how amazing she is.”
Connect Me’s partnership department works incredibly hard to gain partnerships with influencers across a variety of social media platforms. This partnership was very successful and led to a tutor influx within the nonprofit. Overall, the partnership caused Connect Me to gain over fifty new tutors in a week!
