By now, it must’ve been at least a month since your child has gone back to school. Starting a new school year all over again must be overwhelming for your child. How can you help your child on their first month back in school?
How can you help your child adjust to going back to school?
- Incorporate a bedtime routine.
By incorporating a bedtime routine and getting your child to go to bed at a certain time, you’re helping them value discipline and the importance of getting a good night’s rest. They’ll want to spend all night doing homework or talking with friends but, having that full night to rest will allow them to work faster and better the next day.
- Help them with homework.
Finding difficulty completing homework is nothing to be ashamed of. Rather, as a parent, it is your responsibility to ask them how you can help. You might have to find them a professional tutor or a peer tutor. You might have to sit with them as they do homework so they can ask you questions. Whatever works for your child so that they not only submit the assignments on time but, they understand what the homework is trying to teach them as well.
- Allow them to have a social life.
Strict parents only create sneaky kids. Allowing your child to hang out with friends a few days a week, giving them that reprieve from constant schoolwork and having to adjust back to exercising their brains and juggling different tasks almost everyday will be incredibly beneficial.
The Takeaway
Every child struggles to adjust quickly to being back in school. They might procrastinate with homework and struggle to get out of bed so early in the morning. That’s all completely normal. As a parent, it is your job to help them adjust. Give your child some grace as they readjust to the school year.
