High school students are probably already overwhelmed by the insane amount of schoolwork they have to finish. Imagine adding tutoring their peers and helping them with their homework almost daily to that already full workload. Is it impossible? Absolutely not. Is it difficult? It must be but, it doesn’t necessarily have to be.
In this article, we’ll go over how you can juggle school and tutoring so you can still have the energy to give your all in both without tearing yourself apart in the process.
3 Ways to Juggle School and Tutoring
- Create a schedule or routine and have the willpower to follow it.
A routine is important but sticking to that routine is going to be even more difficult, especially if you are a high school student with so many distractions around you or things you’d rather be experiencing. If you want to manage your time better however, it must start by having a routine for yourself and actually sticking to said schedule.
You might want to start easy. Maybe start by waking up a little earlier than usual so you can get some time in to read or workout. When you come home, dedicate an hour to homework or to understand concepts from class that you want to skim over again.
- Consider asking for help.
You must be so used to helping people that you forget that you can ask for help too. If you find yourself struggling with a class or a lesson, it isn’t embarrassing to ask for tutoring for yourself. You might just need someone to dedicate some time to you to properly explain concepts the same way you do when you tutor somebody.
Many people consider asking for help a sign of weakness when it is far from it. Asking for help requires a certain amount of strength, one you must have if you want to succeed in this life. No man is an island. Ask for help.
- Be patient with yourself.
There will be times where you fail and you don’t end up managing your time as well as you wanted to. That’s ok. Given yourself some grace. Be patient with yourself. Allow yourself to make some mistakes. These mistakes should not discourage you. Instead, they must be learning curves.
A mistake does not make you a failure. A mistake teaches you how you can improve next time. It’s a beautiful thing to make a mistake. You only need to shift your mindset so that you don’t get too frustrated and discouraged when you make one.
Why is it important to be able to manage your time properly?
The answer to this question is fairly self-explanatory but, if you still need some more convincing as to why you should manage your time a little better, here it is. Have you ever come home from school and immediately hopped on your bed? You probably started scrolling on TikTok or Instagram. Before you knew it, 2 hours had passed. You look at the clock and it’s dinner time so you go down the stairs and have some dinner. You might end up showering. You head back to your room and realize you have a ton of homework to finish. You know you’re going to end up sleeping at 2 in the morning just to complete all of it.
That is poor time management. It was poor time management that led to a poor sleep schedule. That poor sleep schedule will most likely lead to you sleeping in class or not paying any attention which means extra work when you get back home or low grades for a test. Rinse. Repeat. The cycle will continue unless you do something about it and learn some time management.
Time management will be your first step to conquering your dreams and a crucial step to your success. Trust me. As a certified procrastinator, I would know. You only ever regret it in the end.
