At Connect Me, every tutoring session proves to be more than just time spent studying, revealing new opportunities for growth, confidence, and connection. Over the past few years, dedicated volunteer tutors and students have continued to show what is possible when learning is built on commitment and empathy. What begins as an hour a week between two people often turns into a shared journey of discovery.
One student joined Connect Me by describing her own math skills as “below average” compared to her peers at school. The subject had always felt like a chore that was impossible to grasp. However, working with her tutor changed that perspective. Her sessions began with simple exercises and building confidence. Those small victories began to add up. After just a few months of working one-on-one with her tutor, she found herself explaining problems to herself at school, and was even able to show one of her classmates. Above all, she was able to see her capabilities in a new light; as someone capable of improving through effort and support. Her journey is one of many that remind tutors the core message of learning.
Beyond sessions, Connect Me has offered various ways for tutors to join leadership and change the organization in their own ways. Through coordinated outreach and storytelling efforts, the team has brought national attention to Connect Me’s mission with new features across local news outlets in areas such as Seattle and Sioux Falls. Our tutors have stepped up with their initiatives and have partnered with 70+ schools to build a network of free educational resources. Each collaboration has amplified the impact, turning volunteers into leaders and measurable change.
Collectively, these efforts have added up to more than $5.3 million worth of free tutoring provided to students. This not only reflects the organization’s growth, but the generosity and passion of everyone who worked towards this mission.
Connect Me’s story continues to grow through the dedication of its students, tutors, and leadership team. Every success, no matter how small, shows the power of learning and connection. Moving forward, the organization aims to reach even more students and expand partnerships with schools across the country. With the continued support of volunteers and communities, Connect Me hopes to keep making education accessible, one tutoring session at a time, and pushes to share more success with its members.
