Connect Me recently held its first-ever Mental Health Webinar through its new program, Connect Me Health. This program is designed to help our tutors in maintaining their mental health while keeping a healthy balance of their busy lives. It’s evident that each of our tutors work incredibly hard outside of Connect Me, and it’s important for us to prioritize their mental health to ensure a positive lifestyle.

In hopes of making this webinar an annual event, a guest speaker was invited to share their expertise and give a presentation to the webinar attendees. This year’s guest speaker, Dr. Nancy Haug, is a Stanford Faculty member and a board-certified psychologist who specializes in addiction. She tailored her presentation to address the risks and consequences of addiction.

When planning for the webinar and securing a guest speaker, Aarav Shah, Connect Me’s Internal Vice President, spoke with the founder of Connect Me, Mehmet Tascioglu. As a current student at Stanford University, Mehmet recommended to Aarav to email the Stanford Faculty to see who would be interested in speaking at the webinar. He emailed Dr. Haug, who immediately showed interest and got on board with giving a presentation at the webinar.

The planning process was long, but completely worth it in the end. To bring this event to life, Aarav and Dr. Haug coordinated with each other to create a script for the webinar, manage the RSVPs and the advertising, and go through a few trial runs of the webinar itself to ensure the event would run smoothly.

During the webinar, Dr. Haug first spoke about mental illness to give webinar attendees an idea of the background, then dove into addiction, including the different types, the harmful consequences, and the dangerous effects it could cause on the brain. She also gave attendees an insight of her job and opened a Q&A discussion at the end.

While reflecting on the webinar, Aarav noted that his favorite part was when Dr. Haug spoke about addiction. It was evident how passionate she was about the topic and gave the webinar attendees a perfect insight on the different types of addiction and what it can do to the human body and brain.

This webinar is a powerful reminder to our tutors that mental health should always be a priority. By nurturing our minds today, we create a foundation for a healthier, more fulfilling future.
